Our goal is to discover and develop to the fullest extent the potential of each student by empowering the student to become a life-long learner and a positive contributing member of our society. We recognize that gifted/talented students are those children characterized by above-average ability and/or potential in one or more of the following areas recognized by the Ohio Department of Education: superior cognitive, specific academic, creative thinking, and visual/performing arts.
While all children have gifts and talents, not all children are identified as "gifted." Our goal is to provide different learning activities and services to enhance and develop our students' strengths and needs. Attention will be focused on the total student to optimize intellectual, social, and emotional growth.
In OHIO, “Gifted” means students who perform or show potential for performing at remarkably high levels of accomplishment when compared to others of their age, experience, or environment and who are identified under division (A), (B), (C), or (D) of section 3324.03 of the Revised Code.
Gifted identification and services vary widely amongst states due to the Federal government allowing each state to determine the nature and scope of gifted education. Some states mandate and provide funding for identification and services while other states offer nothing. Ohio mandates that districts identify gifted students, however, there is no mandate to serve. As a result, gifted service offerings vary between the local districts as much as states differ in their requirements for identification and service.
